DIY Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang Ylang is extracted from the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree, native to the Philippines and Indonesia and thrives best in acidic soils. The flowers can be difficult to cultivate in other regions. If you do happen to be lucky enough to get your hands on some of the fresh flowers, the first thing you’ll need to know is that the process for distillation is very delicate and specific, and does require a distiller that is designed for essential oil extraction and anhydrous sodium sulfate to remove the traces of water from the distilled oil. It is an involved process that requires some commitment, but is a very fulfilling task.
